Last month, we talked about the incredible benefits of IV glutathione and its role in helping the body detoxify heavy metals. This month, I’d like to take that conversation a step further and look at how the detox process actually works — and what kinds of changes we can see in heavy metal blood tests over time.
To help bring this to life, let me share the story of one of my patients, a 74-year-old man who first came to see me last year. When we met, he told me he’d been struggling for years with brain fog, frequent skin rashes, strange digestive issues, depression, and anxiety. Based on his symptoms, I suspected heavy metal toxicity might be playing a role. When I mentioned this to him, he confirmed that earlier in his life, he had worked in an environment with a lot of pollution and chemical exposure.
With that in mind, we decided to run a heavy metals blood test to check for common toxins — including arsenic, cadmium, cesium, chromium, lead, mercury, and thallium.
These were his results:

As you can see, none of his initial test results came back significantly high — which I actually suspected might happen. Why? Because even with long-term exposure to heavy metals and noticeable symptoms of toxicity, a standard blood test doesn’t always reveal the full picture. That’s because heavy metals aren’t primarily stored in the blood. Instead, they tend to accumulate deep within the body’s tissues and organs — especially the kidneys, liver, and brain — where they can remain for years.
I explained this to my patient, and together we decided to begin a gentle detox program using a charcoal binder along with weekly IV glutathione treatments for three to four months. After completing the first phase of treatment, he noticed a slight improvement in his symptoms. At that point, we repeated the heavy metals blood test, and here’s what we found:

The significant increase in his follow-up results didn’t mean the detox wasn’t working — in fact, it was quite the opposite. The rise in metal levels showed that detoxification was actively taking place. The treatments were helping to mobilize the metals stored deep in his tissues and organs, moving them into the bloodstream so the liver and kidneys could filter and eliminate them.
With this understanding, we decided to continue his detox protocol. Over the next several months, he maintained weekly IV glutathione treatments and continued using a charcoal binder for support. When we met again to reassess, he reported steady improvements — his brain fog was lifting, his mood was brighter, and both his digestive and skin issues had become far less frequent. A repeat heavy metals test was performed and the results were as follows:

Once again, while some might look at these results and assume his condition was getting worse, the truth was quite the opposite. The higher mercury levels in his bloodstream were actually a positive sign — clear evidence that his body was continuing to pull stored metals out of deep tissues and organs and move them toward elimination.
Since he was also reporting noticeable improvements in his overall well-being, we decided to continue with the detox process. This time, we increased the dose of glutathione in his weekly IV treatments. I have found that in general most people have weak livers and since glutathione helps strengthen the liver- we hoped that an increased dose would improve the body’s ability to clear out the remaining toxins. After several more months of consistent treatment, we met again to review his progress and repeat the heavy metals blood test.
When we met again, the patient shared that he felt better than he had in years. His energy levels were up, his focus had sharpened, and the brain fog that once clouded his days was gone. He also reported improved digestion and no recurrence of the skin issues that had bothered him for so long. We repeated his heavy metals blood test — and here’s what we found:

His final test results showed a remarkable decrease in heavy metal levels across the board — clear evidence that his body had successfully released and eliminated much of its toxic burden. Most importantly, his renewed energy, clarity, and overall sense of well-being reflected the internal healing that had taken place.
This case serves as a compelling illustration of the critical importance of patience and consistency in the detoxification process. It is important to note that this journey is often non-linear; temporary fluctuations in test results may indicate progress rather than setbacks. Additionally, this case highlights the efficacy of intravenous glutathione in detoxification and underscores the fact that the optimal dosage can differ significantly among individuals. With appropriate guidance, tailored support, and sufficient time, the body possesses an extraordinary capacity to restore balance and achieve renewed vitality.
